Le Creuset and Star Trek Take Cookware to a Whole New Level

Le Creuset is quite possibly the world’s most sought after cookware manufacturer, especially among those looking for timeless design that is built to last. With a back catalogue covering over a century’s worth of products, you might expect Le Creuset to look almost exclusively to the past for inspiration. However, the reality is quite the opposite.
The brand does a fantastic job of keeping its finger on the pulse and leaning into a wide range of current trends. Hot on the heels of Hello Kitty, Pokémon, Disney and Harry Potter collaborations, the cookware colossus asked us to help promote its biggest partnership yet: Le Creuset x Star Trek! May the force be with us … wait, that’s the other one isn’t it?!
The Le Creuset x Star Trek Collection
Being a bunch of geeks ourselves, we had great fun rifling through the heavily embargoed marketing materials and checking out the entirety of the upcoming Star Trek themed range.
From the hilarious Spok Ear Mug to the frankly bonkers Communi-Grater, it quickly became apparent that Le Creuset had knocked it out of the park with this one. There was one piece in particular, though, that we’d been tasked to send into space, and that was the Signature Round Casserole with a Starfleet insignia handle. Time to get to work.
Making it So
For those not familiar with Le Creuset’s game, the vast majority of its signature pieces are made of cast iron. Unfortunately, the Star Trek pan in question was no exception and, as such, weighed an absolute tonne. This gave the Sent Into Space tech team quite the headache as it worked out how to lightweight the rest of the craft to compensate for the hefty payload.
As per usual, our brainy squad of engineers did us proud and came up with the perfect solution: suspending the pan directly from the flight train and building the all-important flight computer, tracking systems and batteries into a bespoke capsule above. Job done.
A Giant Leap for Pankind
With the list of engineering tasks ticked off, the team relocated to one of our dedicated launch sites and readied the craft for liftoff. One balloon full of hydrogen later and the Le Creuset x Star Trek Casserole was off on its merry way to the upper stratosphere, peaking at a whopping 110,095 feet above the Earth!
The pan’s dedicated selfie cam captured some incredible stills and videos during the flight; we were all absolutely gob smacked once we’d recovered the craft and downloaded the data. With that said, we’d advise you all to boldly go and watch the official content for yourselves:
