Let’s face it, most of us have eaten an Oreo at some point or other, with some of us guilty of eating far too many. However, for the uninitiated, Oreo is one of the most famous cookie brands ever to grace the face of the planet, and its irresistible creme-filled delights can be found on supermarket shelves across more than 100 countries worldwide. Those in the know will also be familiar with the age-old tradition of dunking an Oreo into a cold glass of milk, a match made in heaven much like fish and chips, peanut butter and jelly, and – of course – Barbie and Ken.
Oreo's Space Mission
To take this legendary pairing to a whole new level, Oreo enlisted Sent Into Space to launch one of its cookies headlong into the Milky Way for the ultimate dairy dunk! Now, we’ve certainly taken on our fair share of ambitious engineering projects over the years – each with their own unique technical hurdles to overcome – but this space launch really took the biscuit. However, never ones to shy away from a challenge, we readily accepted Oreo’s request and got straight to work.
Building the Oreo Spacecraft

The first step was to design and build a flying saucer prop worthy of inclusion in a sci-fi flick and then adorn it with Oreo’s iconic branding and a smattering of the world’s favourite cookies to complete the look. However, the project’s true pièce de resistance was undoubtedly the craft’s custom-engineered cookie cannon – the brainchild of our marvellous tech team – which was thoroughly tested over dozens of packets of Oreos to ensure that it worked perfectly every time … at least that’s what our engineers said the cookies were for!
Launching an Oreo into Space

All that was left was to load an Oreo into the cannon, commence the launch countdown and wait with baited breath as the craft ascended to an epic 120,000 feet above the Earth’s surface. Needless to say, the tech team did us proud, and the spaceflight went off without a hitch, with the cannon successfully launching its cookie cargo into the unknown to begin its metamorphosis into a Space Dunk Oreo!
