2019 In Review

With 2020 still fresh out of the oven, we've set aside a little time to reflect on the year that's just passed. After all, it's been one heck of a year! We conducted over 100 flights in 12 countries spread across 3 different continents, worked with some of the world's biggest brands, achieved multiple world firsts and continued to push the boundaries of Near Space flight.

You can check out some of our best bits in this video here. Read on below to find out a bit more about some of these amazing projects.

There are so many launches we could have picked as our favourites from last year, but the ones which really stood out have a few things in common.

For starters, all the launches we've chosen to include look stunning. Our hyperlapse of the 2017 total eclipse took months of painstaking editing to stitch together, but it was all worth it for a completely groundbreaking perspective on our planet's relationship with its oldest and largest satellite. Maybe that's why it garnered over 50,000 views across different channels in the first 24 hours after release, and was featured by dozens of news outlets across the globe?

Many of these projects also show some of our best engineering work and our ability to push the boundaries. Xiaomi's Redmi Note 7 phone is a technical triumph, which we showcased when we got it to take photos on a journey into Near Space. The launch for HyperX similarly showcased our unparalleled blend of technical and creative skills, used to create a fitting product launch for the amazing Cloud Orbit headphones. Meanwhile, our launch for Samsung marks the first ever 8K video footage captured in space, something we're very proud of.

Above all though, our favourite projects from last year share a positive, inspirational message. It's hard to ignore the ever-growing divisions in our society and the news can often feel like nothing more than an endless source of gloom. When we launched a LEGO Cities space station, we celebrated their ability to inspire the imagination to pursue engineering. That's something they share with Barbie - our launch with Mattel, T1 and STEM Camp in Toronto marked 60 years of Barbie telling young girls that they can aspire to any profession, including being an Astronaut.

Perhaps the most touching project was our Buzz Lightyear launch. An epic collaboration with eBay, LadBaby and Pixar's Toy Story 4, we sent Buzz Lightyear into space to highlight eBay's range of pre-loved toys. The model which made the epic journey into space was auctioned off, with the proceeds going to the charity Together For Short Lives who help seriously ill children and their families.

Of course, there are a load of other projects in the video, too many to talk about here! There's our world-record-setting catch video, the wedding dress art project, that Donald Trump bobble head, the time we met Sadio Mané... It really has been a busy year.

As 2020 gets fully underway, we have no plans to slow down. Get in touch today to discuss how you could make it into our Best of 2020 list!
