Legendary British band Muse has spent the last thirty-odd years thrilling fans with its signature blend of operatic rock. From the very beginning, the trio has leaned heavily into sci-fi and space-age themes – evident in songs like Supermassive Black Hole, Starlight and Space Dementia – so it was only logical for Muse to get in touch regarding an out-of-this-world advertising campaign.
The Wow! Signal
For Muse’s latest album, the subject matter of choice is the legendary Wow! Signal. This unusually strong burst of extraterrestrial radio waves was intercepted by SETI in the 1970s and is perhaps humanity’s most compelling evidence for the existence of alien life. Clearly Muse must agree as the band decided to reply to the WOW! Signal with an interstellar broadcast of its very own. Enter Sent Into Space…

Engineering a Deep-space Broadcast Platform for Muse
The mission was set, and the tech team got to work designing and building a cosmic communications platform fit for the world’s most theatrical rock band, containing a space-capable digital display and a custom dipole antenna. With the engineering sorted, it was time to create a bespoke Muse-branded bezel for the screen, complete with the band’s logo at the top and the album’s distinctive iconography below.

Time to Fly for Muse's Album Announcement
Launch day arrived and so did perfect flight conditions, so it was all hands on deck before the notoriously fickle British weather could change its mind! The launch team filled the balloon, fired up the cameras and watched the craft ascend through the clouds on its way towards space. Eventually, the flight reached a whopping peak altitude of 33km above the Earth. Here, the ground team remotely activated the screen via satellite uplink to display a whole host of Muse content, before the integrated antenna transmitted it into deep space at the speed of light. Let’s hope the cosmos is ready to experience its first ever taste of operatic rock!
