Unless you’ve been living under a bin lid for the last few weeks, you’ll have undoubtedly heard about the ongoing Clackton by-election. It’s certainly not a one-horse race either, with a whopping 34 candidates all vying for the British public’s votes – ranging from career politicians like Nigel Farage to slightly more bizarre offerings such as Nick the Incredible Flying Brick.
Among the dozens of names on the almost metre-long ballot slip, one campaigner in particular has caught the nations attention: the self-proclaimed intergalactic space warrior Count Binface. With His Lordship seemingly Earthbound – we can only assume he’s experiencing issues with his warp drive? – we hurriedly helped him a lift back into space aboard one of our custom-built spacecraft.
How we built the Count Binface spacecraft
Although thrilled to receive a one-way ticket home, the Count regretfully declined the offer, revealing that he’s rather busy here on Earth until at least election day. He did, however, ask if we could air a recorded address to his beloved constituents from over 100,000 feet above the planet he’s currently calling home. Needless to say, we jumped at the chance and got to work building a cosmic communications platform.

The Sent Into Space tech team sprung into action, modifying a digital display so that it could survive its upcoming trip into the freezing clutches of space. Once mounted to a bespoke carbon-fibre craft, the screen was ready to go, with onboard cameras ready and waiting to capture the universe’s first-ever election video from space.
We’re go for launch
The day of the spaceflight arrived, and the launch team arrived on site to ready the craft for its journey off world. With the balloon filled and all pre-flight activities complete, we released the Count’s communications platform and watched it ascend through the clouds. Once it reached an altitude of 100,000 feet, Ground Control remotely activated the screen via satellite uplink to broadcast Binface’s interplanetary address to the Clackon constituency and beyond!
