Sent Into Space Helps Francis Bourgeois on His Mission to Space

Francis Bourgeois has become a social media superstar over the last few years, with his charming locomotive videos exposing a whole new generation to the joys of trainspotting.

Ahead of his upcoming stint as a Top Gear presenter, this rather unconventional Gucci model turned his attention to the skies as he attempted to fulfil his childhood dream of becoming an astronaut. We were even asked to tag along for the ride, with Shine TV producing the show for Channel 4’s epic two-part documentary Mission To Space with Francis Bourgeois.

Mission to Space

For the space geeks among us, the show definitely wasn’t short of exciting moments. As well as meeting real-life rocketman Tim Peake and visiting a range of space-age facilities, Francis also embarked on an intense astronaut training regime. However, after passing out during a simulated G-force test, it started to dawn on him that getting to space was going to be much harder than it’d first appeared.

A Fitting End to Francis' Astronaut Journey

The physical extremes and emotional toll of astronaut training had clearly left their mark on a weary Francis, leaving him to ponder whether there was perhaps a less gruelling way to reach the stars. That’s where Sent Into Space came in. Although we couldn’t offer Francis a ticket to escape Earth’s atmosphere (imagine the size of balloon we’d need!), we did launch the next best thing – an adorable model of Francis and his girlfriend – to over 120,000 feet above the ground. The best bit? The entire flight was narrated by British national treasure Stephen Fry - what an honour.
