After months of research and development, we decided that a two-craft launch was the best way to pull the record off. The first spacecraft featured a modified tablet and a robot arm programmed to interact with the BetOnline.ag website, which would place a bet in real time. The second featured a rotating branded coin, and was fitted with impact sensors to cease the coin’s spinning upon landing, thus completing a coin toss from space.

In order to complete a real coin toss, we had to make sure that there was no way we could predict which way the coin would land. Given that we had knowledge of the craft systems, speed of rotation, and launch conditions on the day, we turned to the one totally unpredictable variable — the burst altitude of the balloon.

We successfully placed the first bet from space, and the coin was tossed perfectly (heads, if you were wondering). The stunt received over a hundred thousand cross-channel views and coverage from outlets across the US including a feature article from Forbes.
